How to take good care of yourself during winter ❄️

For all who often find themselves day-dreaming of running in a flower field on a sunny summer afternoon

When the days are shorter and the sun hides away, we sometimes wish to hibernate throughout winter. Here is how we handle it: get super cosy in the comfort of our own home! There are plenty of fun things to do during winter.

1. Start the day with a warm drink

Who has never been tempted to just hit ‘snooze’, turn around, snuggled up under the cover like a cocoon, to get those precious 10 extra minutes of sleep? When the weather gets cool, what is more comforting than a delicious hot drink?

We warm up chilly mornings with a sweet and creamy homemade hot chocolate, served with whipped cream or fluffy marshmallows for some extra pleasure; a hot cup of chai tea latte or a honey and lemon tea.

We love a good pumpkin spice latte:

That famous drink that gives us all the comfort we need. Make your mornings spicier with this very simple and quick recipe!

  • Add 2 cups of the milk of your choice in a saucepan,
  • 3 tbsp of pumpkin purée
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tbs of vanilla extract,
  • spices (mix one 1/2 tbsp of cinnamon, 2 tbsp of ginger, one 1/2 tbsp of nutmeg and a pinch of cloves) and stir. Be careful, heat over low heat and bring it to boil slowly.
  • Add the coffee of your choice, and stir.
  • You can top it with some delicious coconut whipped cream

Did you know that Pumpkins had many health benefits? They contain a good dose of magnesium and potassium. They are rich in vitamins and minerals which make them very good for the immune system, for our eyes and skin.

2. Don’t skip skincare routine

Show your skin some extra love and treat it the way it deserves to be treated! In winter, our skin needs some special care as it tends to get drier and more sensitive with the cold outside and heating inside.

It’s important to stay hydrated. Yes, we’ve been hearing this everyday - DRINK WATER for a glowy skin. While some people might disagree with this miracle remedy, others will promise, it is their beauty secret. Besides, our body needs water to function.

Find most of the fantastic natural skincare ingredients in your kitchen!

We love honey for its antibacterial and antiseptic super powers. It is full of antioxidants, and helps get rid of the dirt and bacterias responsible for pimples and acne. Honey is great for chapped lips and wound care, such as burns and minor cuts. It is pro-aging and will make you glow. Apply the mixture on your face and leave it for 15 minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This beauty trick has been around for centuries and is well known for giving you a soft and smooth skin.

Aloe Vera will strengthen our natural defenses thanks to its high concentration in vitamins and minerals. It stimulates our immune system and helps maintain healthy skin and hair. Aloe is great as a juice, added to smoothies or put straight onto our face!

We are big fans of organic ingredients on our skin as they are naturally rich in vitamins that repair and protect the skin all year around but especially in winter. Some of our favourite natural oils are: Coconut oil, Almond oil, Sunflower Seed oil, Jojoba oil, Argan oil, or Cacay oil.

Sunscreen

It may not feel hot and the sun may be hidden behind the clouds, but its rays still pass through! And actually, we are more at risk if we are surrounded by snow. Sunscreen will reduce the penetration of UV rays onto our skin and help prevent various skin disorders. Wearing sunscreen all year long is the best protection to defy the signs of aging.

Stay fresh and glowy in winter!

3. Exercise!

It is the best time to invite a friend over, ask siblings or parents to join and set goals together. Let’s put our favourite sports outfit on, choose an uplifting playlist and find that motivation!

We personally love a good Yoga session. This relaxing activity can easily be practiced in our bedroom, living room, or any other part of the house. A Yoga session first thing in the morning can help our mental and physical well-being whereas an easy slow Yoga sess before bedtime may help us drift asleep smoothly.

A good practice helps to re-focus on our breathing and become aware of all the feels running through our bodies day by day. It is known for its ability to relieve tension and anxiety and has cardiovascular benefits.

4. Get those vitamins

Staying in all day to binge watch our new favourite TV show on Netflix with a bag of candy and a hot chocolate milk, wrapped up in your cosiest blanket, your fuzzy socks on, on a gloomy afternoon… There are such days.

But we should still get those vitamins to remain healthy! Here is a list of delicious fruits and veggies that are in season right now: Apples, Avocados, Banana, Beets, Carrots, Cucumber, Celery, Grapefruit, Kiwifruit, Lemons, Oranges, Pears, Pineapples, Potatoes, Pumpkin, Sweet Potatoes, Turnips.

We love one of those super-delicious avocado toasts:
  • 2 avocados
  • 4 slices of toasted multigrain bread
  • finely chopped pink radishes
  • toasted sunflower seeds
  • chopped chives
  • olive oil
  • lemon juice

Cucumbers and celery make great snacks to munch on! Both contain a lot of water and keep us hydrated.

Carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkins are perfect for our skin thanks to loads of antioxidants and beta-carotene.

A Fat-Free Apple Crumb Dessert is an ideal desert. So yummy!

Treat your body with great care and it will thank you later.

5. Draw yourself a detox bath

Is there anything better than the feeling of warm water running down your skin on a cold winter day? We’re pretty sure this is what heaven feels like. You deserve to relax and release all tension of a stressful day. Add some natural ingredients to make each bath extra.

Epsom salt helps our muscles relax, soothe atopic skin, remineralizes the body and restores a healthy looking skin. By the way, bath salts not only help our muscles relax but also relax the mind. Support that with some essential oils.

Essential oils add some aromatherapy to our soothing winter bath.

Lavender oil helps us relax, calm anxiety and stress. But can also help with acne due to its anti-fungal properties, that help reduce inflammation and helps soothe symptoms of eczema and dry skin.

Colloidal Oatmeal is an ideal remedy for dry, itchy and irritated skin. Cold weather can be harsh on your skin. Colloidal oatmeal is a different type of oatmeal than the one we have in our kitchen and use for breakfast. This one is commonly used for baths and can be found in drugstores. Oatmeal is great for skin conditions including eczema due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and moisture-retaining properties. Hop in a lukewarm bath, not too hot as it will negate the beneficial effects an oatmeal bath has on itching. Take a deep breath and unwind. For some extra relaxation and tension reliever we use a Śavāsana Aromatherapy Eye Pillow filled with french organic lavender.

6. Make me-time a priority!

Taking care of yourself is productive, yet we don’t do it enough. So let’s make room in our busy schedules for some undisturbed me-time. And yes, laying on a couch with a face mask on and a hot cup of tea sounds like a good way to fill in that free space in our schedule.

It’s important to separate working time and relaxing time. If you can, do not mix and set a regular sleep schedule for an undisturbed circadian rhythm - even on weekends. Like - past 9 PM, unplug that brain and de-stress.

7. Sleep well

Restoring sleep is the key to remain healthy and productive throughout the day! During the night our whole body detoxes, that applies to every cell from our brain to our skin. Our bodies need those 7-9 hours of sleep to start fresh and healthy into the new day.

A hot shower at night can help us sleep better, as it cools down the body temperature, which sends a signal to our brain that it’s time to sleep. Our body temperature plays a big part in regulating our circadian rhythm. Before we crawl into bed and enter a dreamy night’s rest, we can make ourselves a Blue Moon Milk to help us drift asleep peacefully. This exceptional bedtime beverage is a remedy we need if we’ve been spending sleepless nights.

Blue Moon Milk ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk,
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup,
  • 1 teaspoon butterfly pea flower powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon,
  • A pinch of nutmeg

Butterfly🦋pea powder has many health and beauty benefits: it is rich in plant-based antioxidants that naturally rejuvenate our skin and help us age gracefully. Its Anxiolytic properties have a relaxing effect on the body, relieving stress and anxiety.

A gentle Peace Silk Sleep Mask with a barely-there-feeling on our sensitive eye area supports deeper rests at night. It blocks out light, protects the sensitive skin around our eyes from sleep wrinkles, helps us fall asleep faster and can improve our overall sleep quality.

Moonchild wishes you a good night sleep. 🌙☁️

Enjoy the rest of winter, Love.
