FAQ - Frequently Asked Question
How is Moonchild different from other silk brands?
We believe in silk pillowcases that are as soft on the earth as they are on our bed. The old-fashioned textile industry has spent years consuming tons of water, harming animals, and polluting our oceans and air with toxic chemicals. We’re here with a fresh start: a new era of silk that is earth-friendly, skin-friendly, cruelty-free, and super-soft. Because we think our best night’s sleep is even better when it doesn’t harm the environment.
We don’t only choose silk that is better for the planet, but that just feels better, too.

Does a Moonchild silk pillowcase fit my memory foam, tempur or neck pillow?
If you want to find the right size for your favourite neck pillow - measure the maximum scope and divide by two. That way you ensure to include heights and length. If needed, fold underneath on the inside.
How much momme does Moonchild silk have?
Our special organic silk has 19 momme. We choose the softest density to maximise beauty enhancing benefits. The thicker the silk, the less soft it will be. Did you know that conventional silk often contains a polyester blend to make it look shinier? Or that it is made heavier with chromium or barium because it is traded by weight? Momme is a weight unit and not a quality criteria.
What is the grade of Moonchild silk?
Moonchild uses the most exquisite organic silk on the market, organically and ethically gained and woven under fair labour conditions in Italy by the same mills producing for the world's leading high-fashion houses.
Satin vs silk - what's the difference?
Sateen or satin is a weave pattern that creates a silky-smooth feel, and lustrous sheen. But it could be made of any fabric, such as cotton or polyester. Only genuine silk is naturally anti-microbial, anti-fungal and keeps our hair and skin hydrated. A satin silk pillowcase provides all beauty benefits for our hair, skin and overall well-being. Read on how to spot the difference.
How is Moonchild silk dyed?
All Moonchild colours are hand dyed in a certified sustainable and non-toxic way in Italy, Europe. That is how we ensure safe textiles since research suggests that conventional textile dyes and solvents, such as formaldehyde or chlorine bleach, could be highly toxic and potentially carcinogenic. Read on about toxins in textiles.

Can I wash a silk pillowcase in the washing machine?
Machine wash cold is safe for silk pillowcases. They are ideally placed within in a laundry bag and tumble dried low to not damage the gentle fibers.
Can I use a dryer for silk pillowcases?
We do not recommend a dryer for silk pillowcases as silk is sensitive to heat and might shrink or get damaged.
How often shall I wash my silk pillowcase?
As silk is naturally stain and dust repellent, there's no need to exchange a pillowcase too often. For normal use - a quick wash every or every other week shall do the job. Read on why your average pillowcase might be the dirtiest item in your bedroom and organic silk helps to prevent acne.
Can I wash a silk pillowcase with soap or shampoo?
If you love your silk, please refrain from using shampoo or soap for silk. Even detergents for delicates might not be ideal, when they claim to be used for wool and silk as both have different needs. The better you care for your silk, the longer it will return the favour with long-lasting shine and smoothness. We recommend a special silk detergent and an occasional hint of vinegar at the end of the washing cycle for that extra brilliance.
The glass lid of my silk detergent is stuck - how to open?
No worries, adding heat will expand the glass and release pressure. Let warm water run over the bottle neck for a few seconds or heat it with a hair dryer. Twist the lid out carefully then. Reuse and repurpose your Apothecary glass bottle after you finished the product.
