Moonchild Silk Pillowcase – 30-Day Clinical User Study Results

Moonchild Silk Pillowcase – 30-Day Clinical User Study Results

We conducted one of the most comprehensive user studies on silk pillowcases to measure real-world effects on skin, hair, and sleep. Below are the key findings from the pre-study and the 30-day controlled test.

Study Design

  • Pre-study: 154 participants aged 18 to 75 (median 42.5) surveyed on skin, hair, and sleep concerns
  • 30-day test: Participants slept exclusively on the Moonchild silk pillowcase for 30 consecutive nights
  • Follow-up: Valid paired responses; all participants confirmed they slept on the silk pillowcase for the full 30 nights

Pre-Study: Key Pain Points

Before the test phase, we identified the most pressing concerns among the participants:

Skin

  • 89 % wake up with fine lines and wrinkles on their face
  • 79 % feel that their pillow absorbs their creams and serums
  • 79 % report that their skin is prone to redness
  • 67 % are dissatisfied with their skin appearance

Hair

  • 90 % say their hair looks unruly or messy in the morning
  • 82 % experience split ends
  • 77 % experience hair breakage

Sleep & Sustainability

  • 79 % tend to sweat at night
  • Only 56 % report sleeping well
  • 51 % sleep 6 hours or less
  • 74 % consider sustainable products very important

Strongest pain points from the pre-study:

  • “Unruly hair in the morning”
  • “Fine lines in the morning”
  • “Pillow absorbs my skincare products”

Results After 30 Nights

1. Did participants solve their beauty concern?

Response Share
Both equally (wrinkles + split ends) 39 %
Wrinkles 28 %
Split ends 22 %
None 11 %

89 % of participants reported solving at least one of their main beauty concerns.

2. Before vs. After Comparison (Mean Scores, Scale 0–5)

(0 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree)

Metric Before After Change
Unruly / messy hair 4.00 1.39 –2.61
Split ends 3.94 1.33 –2.61
Hair breakage 3.78 1.44 –2.33
Pillow absorbs creams & serums 3.11 1.17 –1.94
Skin redness 3.22 1.50 –1.72
Acne / blemishes 2.83 1.33 –1.50
Night sweating 3.06 1.83 –1.22
Skin feels hydrated 2.50 3.72 +1.22
Skin feels soothed 2.56 3.67 +1.11
Satisfaction with skin appearance 2.17 3.22 +1.06
Sleep quality 2.61 3.72 +1.11
Skin feels smooth 2.78 3.78 +1.00
Healthy skin barrier 2.39 3.39 +1.00

The strongest improvements were observed in hair-related metrics. Unruly hair, split ends, and hair breakage each improved by more than 2.3 points on the scale.

3. Wrinkle Reduction

In the pre-study, participants rated the statement “I wake up with fine lines and wrinkles on my face” with a mean score of 3.56. 89 % reported this as a clear issue (score ≥ 3).

After using the silk pillowcase, the same participants were asked whether fine lines and wrinkles had been reduced:

Statement Mean Score Share score ≥ 3 Share score ≥ 4
Fine lines & wrinkles reduced on the first morning 2.44 50 % 22 %
Fine lines & wrinkles reduced after 30 nights 3.17 89 % 33 %
  • Already on the first morning, 72 % noticed a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles (score ≥ 2). For most, the effect was still mild to moderate.
  • After 30 nights, 89 % confirmed a clear reduction — matching the exact share of participants who had reported the problem in the pre-study.

4. Share of Participants with Clear Improvement

Criterion Share with clear improvement
Split ends clearly improved 83 %
Less unruly hair 78 %
Less hair breakage 78 %
Skin more hydrated 78 %
Skin smoother 67 %
Better sleep quality 67 %
Less redness 61 %
Higher satisfaction with skin appearance 61 %

Summary of Key Findings

  1. Hair showed the strongest effect — unruly hair, split ends, and breakage improved by more than 2.3 points on average.
  2. Wrinkle reduction was confirmed by 89 % of participants after 30 nights — the same share that had reported waking up with fine lines and wrinkles in the pre-study.
  3. Skincare products stay on the skin — the perception that the pillow absorbs creams and serums dropped sharply (from 3.11 to 1.17).
  4. Skin feel improved measurably — hydration, smoothness, and overall satisfaction with skin appearance increased clearly.
  5. 89 % of participants solved their beauty concern (wrinkles, split ends, or both).

Study notes: 30-day-clinical study in collaboration with dermatologist Dr. Marion Runnebaum. Results reflect self-reported outcomes from a 30-day real-world user test with 154 paired participants.
